As the Gospel Rally Approaches

The writer of the Book of Ecclesiastes, the Teacher, describes the human life:

Meaningless! Meaningless! Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless.

You can feel his anguish and frustration. This frustration is not theatrical but expresses his inmost emotion. This frustration is not only felt by adults. Students who face the daily pressure of school work, too, wish that life can be a bit easier on them. Things do not get better with age but worse: youths face the pressure of school work; adults face the pressure of earning a living in the midst of much injustice mixed with physical and mental stresses that come from working with difficult people, long hours, deadlines, health, and job instability. Such stresses in life will prolong until the day we die. Hence, regardless of how wealthy or well a person appears to be, these people know deep in their hearts that life is full of frustration and is meaningless. Dear Christian, that friend or family member of yours needs to hear the good news (gospel) that Jesus can save them. Only then can their hearts find true rest.

The Bible also says that “just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgement” (Heb 9:27). The person whom you care about deeply must face God’s judgement for the sins committed after he or she dies. Your friend or family member may die any day as no one can predict the day of death. If they die without having Jesus as Saviour to wash away their sins, they will be sent to hell to be punished for sin, and that punishment is everlasting. The thought of it should frighten us. They need Jesus urgently as Saviour.

Life without Jesus is meaningless and full of frustration. That suffering does not end here for a person without Jesus: that suffering continues into eternity. How can we not urge our loved ones to come and hear the gospel and be saved? Please invite your family members, relatives, and friends to the coming gospel rally on Friday, 31st August (Chinese meeting) and Saturday, 1st September (English meeting). The title of the rally is entitled “A Meaningful Life.”

I urge and request everyone to come not just for one night but two nights. We are a small church. Just imagine: if on one night only the Chinese or English congregation attends and not in full strength. Then, less than half of the seats in the sanctuary is filled. The worship hall is more than half empty. If only a few guests attend the rally for that night, the whole sanctuary would appear very empty. The singing would not be rich and loud enough. How would guests who come into our church feel? How would your brothers and sisters-in-Christ feel? The mood for the night would be dampened and would be discouraging. Hence, please attend both nights of the gospel rally: Friday and Saturday, 8pm.

Come—just your presence is already a great encouragement. Pray fervently because the devil would also work hard to hinder the gospel work. Pray for the speaker, the chairman, the pianist, the choir, the sister who is sharing her testimony, the AV team, all equipment, the weather and traffic. Pray that the church would be a good testimony and for all who are serving. Above all, pray that God would save souls by the preaching of the gospel. Pray that many lost souls can hear the gospel on these two nights.
