Pastoral Letters are weekly communications from our church pastor to the congregation.  They are mostly original reflections on the Word of God in response to church events or current affairs, local or beyond, with the primary intent to exhort Christians to live rightly before God in the real world.  Short bibliographies are sometimes featured towards the same end.

We pray that these writings will be a great blessing to you!

Depend on God to Live

As technology advances and becomes more accessible, it has made our lives easier.  Nearly everyone in Singapore owns a hand phone, which is also a smart phone.  Thus, shopping, scheduling appointments, making bank transactions, and searching for information is done just by the touch of a finger.  Electronic data and...

Parents’ Day – Part 1 (Mother’s Day)

I can remember fondly my late mother for her sacrificial and unyielding love for me and the family.  Be it through her laborious hard work in supplementing the family’s income or being the mediator between my father and us when we got into trouble or through the smallest of ensuring...

Remembering God’s Kindness on the 8th Anniversary

Jesus says, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full” (John 10:10).  Our greatest desire is that all who come into Tree of Life Christian Church may receive life: that those who are grieving may receive comfort, those who are disheartened may be encouraged,...

Handling Depression—Part 1

Stephen Altrogge wrote this article in http://www. desiringgod.org/articles/how-to-fight-for-faith-in-the-dark. I’ve often said that depression is like wearing tinted glasses. Luke 19:28-38: After Jesus had said this, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem.  As he approached Bethphage and Bethany at the hill called the Mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples, saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and as you enter it,...

Handling Stress in Children’s and Adults’ Life

An article in the Straits Times proposes several things parents should not do with children in helping them handle stress: Œcommunicating with your children only when he has a problem rather than finding time to talk to him; becoming a part of his problems because you want him to meet...

Be Always Vigilant

Recently, the live-action version of Disney’s ‘Beauty and the Beast’ has been the centre of controversy when it reached the local cinemas.  Its director had admitted to injecting a gay character into the latest adaptation, which was not present in the 1991 animation.  The move has since sparked worldwide concern,...
