I recall that when I was a child, I used to go marketing with my mother around Bukit Panjang area. One day, I was being approached by a Christian brother from a nearby church. He brought me into the church. At that time, the church was having Sunday prayer. They also sang a few hymns. The lyrics moved and comforted my heart.

I went to church a second time when a friend brought me to participate in one of their church gatherings. I was brought to church a third time by a neighbour. That was when I shifted to my current home at Jelapang, Bukit Panjang Estate. She had invited us numerous times to her gatherings at her house and also to the church nearby. As my husband was a staunch Buddhist, however, I rejected her and even prevented my children from joining in activities organized by the church.

As time went by, I remained a Buddhist and worshipped my idols until I joined a student care centre. There, I met my colleague, Rose. We got along well and she invited me to Tree of Life Christian Church. I came to know Jesus when my niece Samantha was diagnosed with nose cancer. The shocking SMS I received from my brother-in-law added to my heart pain, on top of the debt burden incurred by my husband. The month of April 2014 was like the end of the world, without life and hope. I know I am a sinner. I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Saviour on the strong faith that He will answer my prayer, comfort broken hearts, bring life and hope back to our families. John 16:24 says: “Until now you have not asked for anything in My name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.”

My Almighty Lord Jesus promises and provides my needs. Through Him, I have learnt to forgive, forget, endure, tolerate, be patient, care and understand. Although things may not be smooth sailing, I believe and trust that my Lord will provide a way out for me in all the obstacles I will encounter.

I know clearly my Christian journey will help me to live a life like that of our Lord Jesus. I resolve to glorify Him with a good testimony, practice good Christian character and remember God’s Word. I will bear in mind that I must not adopt an aggressive attitude to preaching the gospel to non-believers. I regretted for my mistake in preventing my elder daughter from attending church activities which could have helped her to know more about Jesus at her young age.
