It was almost predestined for me to meet God.  Shortly after PSLE ended, a friend that I have not contacted for awhile sent me a text message to invite me to her church’s BBQ as a form of celebrating the completion of PSLE. That was my first encounter with the church and everything seemed unfamiliar.  Soon, however, the enthusiasm of the brothers and sisters of the church allowed me to quickly integrate.

That evening, we barbecued, sang, flew some kites and had a wonderful time and there was absolutely no pressure. That day was the happiest day since I set foot onto Singapore.  From then on, I insisted on attending church gathering on Sunday and immersed myself in this place that was filled with joy and be with my enthusiastic and cheerful brothers and sisters. Gradually, from an atheist, I gravitated towards accepting the Lord Jesus.

My PSLE results were not as good as I expected and I did not make it into the best secondary school.  When I was most frustrated, I received this friend’s phone call and I was recommended to River Valley High School. The school was only several bus stops away from the church.  Alas, once school commenced plus extra-curricular activities and other training, I did not continue going to church.

Although I did not go church as often, I did not leave the Lord.  I still prayed and read the Bible. When the pressure of study and training built up and I almost felt helpless, my mother brought me back to church and to the Lord again.

This time, I will try my best to make time to draw close to the Lord, experience the Lord’s presence that I may be a blessed Christian.
